Battery basics

CCA explained without the jargon

CCA is the starting-power number on your battery label. Here’s what it tells you.

What CCA means

CCA stands for Cold Cranking Amps.

It measures how much current a battery can deliver to start an engine in cold conditions. You’ll find it printed on the battery label.

Is higher better?

The goal is to match or slightly exceed the CCA your vehicle calls for. A higher number alone doesn’t make a battery the right fit: size, terminals and type still need to match.

CCA is one check, not the only one.

Use it alongside battery size, terminal layout and battery type.
