Battery basics guide

What does CCA actually mean?

CCA stands for Cold Cranking Amps: the starting power your battery can deliver.

The basics

Cold Cranking Amps

CCA shows how much current a battery can deliver to start an engine in the cold.

Finding it

Check the label

The CCA number is printed on the battery label, usually next to the battery code.

Choosing

Match what your vehicle needs

Match or slightly exceed the CCA your vehicle calls for. More isn’t automatically better if the size, terminals or type don’t fit.

Use CCA as one check.

Battery size, terminal layout and type still need to match.
