Heat is hard on batteries
Cold mornings get the blame, but summer heat does a lot of the damage.
High temperatures speed up wear inside the battery. The problem often shows up later, when the battery can no longer deliver enough starting power.
Warning signs after summer
- Slower starting
- The battery goes flat after the car sits
- A swollen or bulging case
- White or green build-up on the terminals
What helps
Park in the shade or undercover where you can, keep the terminals clean, and get the battery tested if you notice a change.
